Situated in rural Vermont, the Putney School was founded based on the educational principles of John Dewey, and still holds to progressive values in education. They favor both academic excellence and physical effort; all students participate in a work program as part of their time on campus, and the school runs a functioning dairy farm.

Educational Philosophy: There are qualities we wish all Putney graduates to have, which are inherently valuable, and in fact are qualities towards which people should make progress throughout their lives. These qualities include cultural fluency, self-reliance, an appreciation for manual labor, an appreciation of fine arts, and a capacity for the “hard stretching of oneself.”
Campus Information: Located on a rural 500 acre campus, Putney has dormitories, academic buildings, athletic facilities, arts spaces, and a functional dairy farm.
Arts Programs: There are both formal courses and performance opportunities in the arts available.
Athletics: Putney’s athletics program competes against other schools in the region.
Clubs: Putney doesn’t have traditional extracurriculars; these all take the form of courses as well. You can find these here.
