Rafael Bentes, born and raised in Brazil, has built an impressive career in economics. Now living in Chicago, IL, he earned an MA in Economics from the University of Chicago, where he focused his thesis on the impact of air pollution on labor markets. He previously graduated with High Honors in Economics Theory from New York University (NYU).
Throughout his academic journey, Rafael earned several accolades, including a DURF Grant in 2019, the Founder’s Day Award, and a spot on the Dean’s List every semester. Professionally, he worked as a Pre-Doctoral Fellow at Cornell University under Prof. Daniela Scur, where he analyzed labor market data, collected data from the World Management Survey, and offered valuable research insights. Before that, he tutored 15 different undergraduate courses and led exam prep lectures at NYU’s University Learning Center.
Rafael is skilled in STATA, R, Python, LaTeX, and Excel. He speaks Portuguese natively, is fluent in English, and is proficient in Spanish and German. His research interests are broad, covering Applied Microeconomics, Causal Inference, Education, Health, Environment, and Labor.
Rafael’s journey highlights his passion for economics and his knack for rigorous research. His multilingual abilities and diverse interests allow him to tackle global economic issues effectively.
