Research Mentor
Emily is a Candidacy Building and College Applications Mentor who has tutored students since she graduated from Northwestern University in 2015.
When she applied to college, Emily felt a bit lost – her parents were unfamiliar with the application process for top-tier universities, she was applying as a dual degree student in humanities and clarinet performance, and she was too self-conscious to allow any outside help. After a few changes in major, Emily ultimately found her way, and she is committed to ensuring that other students have the guidance and structure she lacked so that they can find their passions early and pursue them as successfully as possible.
After graduating from Northwestern with a B.A. in History (Magna cum Laude, Department Honors, Phi Beta Kappa), she helped her first student gain admission to their top-choice school, NYU, for a double major in Business and Music. Since celebrating that student’s success, Emily has continued supporting students in navigating college admissions, test prep, humanities subjects, executive functioning, and writing. She has worked with dozens of students through their time in middle school, high school, and beyond. This passion has followed her through her graduate studies at Oxford– where she researched the rhetoric of xenophobia in early modern London, earning research grants and degree honors (M.St. in History, Distinction) – her return to the U.S., and her continued work as a private tutor and college counselor.
Emily has helped students of all strengths, needs, and interests gain admission to an array of universities, including Cornell University (Biology), The University of Michigan (Business), The University of Virginia (Architecture), Northeastern University (Philosophy), and more. She has worked with American and international students through all stages of the application process, with special expertise in helping students identify their long-term academic interests and brainstorming, writing, and editing essays for internship and college applications. Rather than just focusing on rankings, Emily makes sure to match students to the right programs and universities for them.
When not working, Emily can be found spending time with her herd of rescue animals, playing single-player RPGs, or making goth jewelry.
