Research Mentor
Nikhil completed a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology and an M.S. in Motor Development at a prestigious university. His early research experiences identifying key bio-psycho-social factors that influence physical activity behaviors, and the exemplary mentoring he received throughout his training, sparked his intense commitment to scientific inquiry, leveraged for the betterment of society. His dedication to research has only grown stronger as his experiences and expertise too, have grown.
As a faculty member in Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine, he has developed a research program to examine novel bio physiological markers of physical resilience in older adults, and to assess the implementation and therapeutic impacts of innovative non-pharmacological and non-invasive interventions to reduce frailty and enhance function, physical resilience, and ] healthspan in aging.
He has extensive experience working with undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, and junior physicians to enhance their understanding of the process of scientific inquiry. He strives to provide meaningful research experiences for his trainees and mentees to help them strengthen their abilities to think critically and for themselves, whether than be in the pursuit of scientific knowledge or in how they live their lives each day.
He seeks to better understand the complex factors that influence healthy aging in order to truly help older adults live on their own terms. He leverages his expertise in exercise physiological research and implementation science to support dedicated community organizations in delivering impactful, sustainable programs that promote successful aging. When we succeed at helping our older community members live their very best lives, we are truly helping each of us. It is this perspective that drives all that he pursues as a scientist. He seeks, each day, to pass on this passion to his students and other trainees, to foster the very best future scientists.
